Vapor Barriers

Ever noticed the plastic on the ground in your crawlspace? This is referred to as a vapor barrier. Its purpose is to attempt to trap moisture that naturally evaporates from the earth, preventing it from escaping into the air of the space creating humidity. The fundamental issue with this process is the standard way it is installed. On average, a thin plastic barrier is cut it and laid on the ground and called a vapor barrier. Since this barrier is not taped, covering the foundation walls or sealed, moisture will still escape through the seams creating humidity.

A properly installed vapor barrier will be a sealed, continuous barrier that will cover the earth, foundation walls and all seams will be taped to create a proper moisture seal. By doing this, we will help to prevent moisture build up and the potential issues that occur due to moisture in a crawlspace.
